Chapter 3 notes: fiber innovation is still changing our lives! Todays fiber industry is developing more and more specialized fibers, with an emphasis on sustainable production and re-usability. Important role in the growth of the manufactured fiber industry. Bamboo, hemp, nettles, soybeans, milk protein, and spider dna are some of the sources for fiber that is being developed today. Plant fiber producers continue to search for ways to produce more fiber on less land, avoiding pesticide use: secondary manufactured fibers. Fibers split to be smaller then spinnerette opening for extra softness and flexibility in finished form. Microfiber polyester and nylon materials are excellent for cleaning materials because they hold dust and first in the crevices through static attraction, without extra cleaning material and can be cleaned in water alone. Used for silky fashion and home textiles: rayon: the first artificial silk.
