What is the nature of justice? (main question) What is the best method of teaching: plato tackles the content of homeric poetry. Which parts of homer we need to take out: citizens are shaped by stories, poetry creates beliefs, what we hear as young children we are going to take as the truth. Socrates suggests that the truths of poetry are normative (they will influence thoughts, behaviors, etc. ) Homer gives bad behaviors as the way to act if you want to achieve something: gods are divine. Gods do terrible things, the terrible becomes the divine. Humans want to be divine, so they will imitate the gods behaviors. Belief has a strong power towards behavior: socrates wants to create a better ideology in poetry, poetry (cid:449)ill ha(cid:448)e a role in the (cid:272)hildren"s edu(cid:272)ation (cid:271)ut highly super(cid:448)ised, philosophers are going to form patterns that poets will use. We cannot think that is ever right to hate one another.
