Instrumentation of early jazz, including the advancement of the huge band. Early jazz = dixieland jazz and new orleans jazz. Early jazz/dixieland instruments were piano, drums, trombone, trumpet, clarinet, with improv. Trumpet was the essential instrument, clarinet was the auxiliary instrument. In the first place concentrated on little gatherings. Improvement of huge band came later when the saxophone was included. Early jazz = nola, at that point later moved to chicago and afterward nyc. Minstrelsy - mid 1800s, american musicians and the american style, white individuals wearing blackfaces. Created by swing artists at minton playhouse, harmonies and songs are more complex, start of current jazz, accentuation on ad lib and littler gatherings, not danceable, cuban bebop is called cubop. Shake and roll and r&b, helped begin facing racial issues in music in the 50s. Played on roman catholic name, played with sexuality and religion.
