Good character traits are developed in one"s youth, so adults are responsible for teaching the young. Aristotles beliefs of virtue ethics: argued that virtues are good habits that we acquire, and these virtues fall between a middle (mean) of extremes. The three theological virtues: faith, hope, and charity. Caring for our children, do not commit murder. Duty theories are sometimes called: deontological or nonconsequentialist. Samuel pufendorf"s duty theories: duties to god, duties to oneself, and duties to others. Two kinds of duties to god: a theoretical duty to know the existence and nature of god, and, a practical duty to both inwardly and outwardly worship god. Four kinds of duties to others: avoid wronging others, treat people as equals, and, promote the good of others, keep one"s promises. John locke argued that: the laws of nature mandate that we should not harm anyone"s life, health, liberty or possessions.
