CHD-2220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Sensory System, Prenatal Development, Depth Perception
Document Summary
Brain can start to recognize and interpret 3 different types of cues: binocular cues two eyes give slightly different views on the world around us, kinetic cues how quickly an object moves across the retina. Close rapidly versus far away slowly. Evidence of this understanding of 3-dimensional space as children begin to start creeping through their environment in the middle of their first year: experiment visual cliff challenged babies to see if they had good depth perception. If we give children early experience of moving through their environment in a walker (before they can creep/crawl themselves) they develop earlier depth perception (increases information given to the brain to speed up depth perception development. Walkers are very dangerous can lead to injury to the baby.
