Communication is any process in which people, through the use of symbols, verbally and or nonverbally, consciously or not consciously, intentionally or unintentionally, generate meanings (information, ideas, feelings, perception) within and across various contexts, cultures, channels, and media. Self-concept: how you think and feel about yourself. Perception: how you look at others and the world around you. Your self-concept sets limits on your behavioral possibilities. Communication as a transaction: all communication has a past, present, and future, participation is continuous and simultaneous, all communication play roles. Whenever a message potentially has the ability to impact a receiver, the ethics are a consideration. How does self-concept form: reflected appraisals: messages you get about yourself from others. These messages ultimately provide lines for you to speak which become your script.
