EDF-4210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Social Cognitive Theory, Observational Learning
Document Summary
People are active agents who both influence and are influenced by their environment. People learn from observing others (observational learning) People"s beliefs in their own ability (self-efficacy) influences whether an observed behavior will be reproduced or not: the bobo doll experiment: results. Children who observed the aggressive model made far more imitative aggressive responses than those who were in the non-aggressive or control groups. Some children who observed aggressive behavior had partial or non-imitative aggression, although the difference was small. Vicarious reinforcement: observing the environmental outcomes of the behavior of others: factors in observational learning. Outcome expectation: observers are likely to perform the modeled actions they believe are appropriate and will result in rewarding outcomes. Goals: observers are likely to attend to models who demonstrates behavior that help observers attain goals. Self-efficacy: elements of observational learning: arpm model. Motivation and reinforcement: modeling: learning from others.
