Eventually, students were allowed to do demonstrations on campus again: colombia university. 100 students injured, 700 arrested: these events sparked protests on other campuses. Drops out of the race: eugene mccarthy, hubert humphrey. But he is assassinated: party is split over the war, hawks people who were in favor of fighting, doves those against the war. Democratic national convention: delegates bound to vote for lbj and kennedy both are not in race, kennedy is dead, delegates fighting over mccarthy and humphrey. Inside dnc fighting about politics: outside dnc people literally fighting with police about war, humphrey takes nomination.
