Where golden exiles were brought, processed, and granted: middle class citizenship. 75% already had family already living in the us. 3/4th had family that came over during the golden exiles. Teachers, small business owners: mariel cubans. Castro opened a prison that contained anti-communists and he kicked them out of cuba. Assumed to prisoners, communists, and mentally ill. Lived in camps: cuban-haitian entent : balseros . 35,000 cubans have came over on a boat. If the coast guard intercepts, then they are deported.
