Abelard: great lecturer, brought up dialogue, believed everyone is equal, was not popular with the church, questioned the bible, god and faith, tried and condemned for heresy, castrated, womanizer. Impregnated by abelard: had to join a covenant, rose to top position in covenant. Romance of the rose: the first dirty book, romance between abelard and heloise. Misogyny: fear and hatred of women. Trotula: first book on the female anatomy, dealt with midwives and the complications of pregnancy. Scholasticism: goal was to reconcile the bible to facts.
