Document Summary
In conventional 2 dimensional graphing, 2 numbers are used to represent the location of a point in space. For 3 dimensions, 3 points will be used: 3d plots have 8 octants, as opposed to the 4 quadrants from 2d plotting. 3d plots have 3 different planes: the xy plane, the xz plane, and the zy plane. 2d vs. 3d: an equation that would be plotted as a line in 2d will be plotted as a plane in 3d: ex: y = 3. In 3d, y = 3 will be a plane parallel to the xz axis that extends in both directions of the x and z axes, at the point +3 on the y axis. Graphing planes: if x = k, plane is parallel to the yz plane, if y = k, plane is parallel to the xz plane, if z = k, plane is parallel to the xy plane.
