PHI-2100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Long-Term Memory, Working Memory
Document Summary
Work sheet 4: ltm and wm (4 points total) Describe the relationship between long-term memory and working memory and the primacy and recency effects. Working memory is active in the use of information. It"s also seen as a temporal storage of information. However, long-term memory storage information with more stability and is more understood as a permanent store of information. In this type of memory, information is processed and storage but it first needs to go trough working memory to accomplish saving the information correctly. Once it goes trough working memory it is affected by the recency effect because its capacity is not able to store the information, and therefore, new stimuli is more attractive than old information to storage. Describe why depth of processing influences encoding into long-term memory. (1 point) Depth processing influences encoding because there is a relationship between long term memory and information that has a meaning for the person going through that process.
