Document Summary

Many small-molecule hormones are made from cholesterol: steroid sex hormones, stress hormones, and several others. Many are larger pepide molecules: hormones for feeding and drinking, non-steroid sex hormones. Hormones have long term wide ranging efects on organisms. Tropic hormone acivates endocrine gland (e. g t3 and t4 from thyroid) The hypothalamus controls the ans (sns and pns) It is the master control of the bodys hormones: it measures hormone levels, causes pituitary hormone release. Combinaion of sensory input and chemical signals to acivate hunger. E. x. the pvn produces crh: what type of hormone, it circulates to the anterior pituitary, crh releases makes the anterior pituitary secrete acth. The pvn produces oxytocin (the love hormone: it projects to the posterior pituitary gland, oxytocin is released directly into the blood stream. It has its own special circulatory system (the hypophyseal portal: hypothalamic neurons secrete releasing hormones into this portal, causes pituitary to release tropic hormones.
