Psychology: the scientific study of the mind, brain, and behavior. Modern day psychology uses the scientific method. Scientific study of human experience: brain, mind, and behavior are how we measure the study of the human experience. Brain: organ that functions as the center of the nervous system. Study our anatomy and physiology: methods of measurement (check powerpoint because she went too fast) Behavior: an observable physical action or emotional display. Measure behavior: interviews, questionnaires, observation, laboratory tasks. Mind (mental abilities and processes)- internal, subjective fxns and experiences. Includes: attention, perception, memory, thinking, emotion, mental imagery. Measure of attention: compare trial 2 and 1. We can study a myopic level (genes, neurochemical, neurological/physiological) Other ways to analyze psych: mental, behavior, social situations and influences. Distinct characteristics of psychology: multiple determinism- ex: what causes someone to be a bully: genes, parenting style, peer pressure, fragile but inflated ego)
