Social psychology- scientific study of how peoples thoughts, feelings and behaviors are influenced by other people. Focuses on a particular individual not the groups they belong to. Theory:scientific explanation based on observation sociocultural- prejudices, preference, and political persuasion are affected by factors that work at the level of the group. Evolutionary perspective- social behaviors are rooted in physical and psychological predespositions that helped our ancestors survive and reproduce; how pressures from the environment helped shape behavior. Natural selection: process by which animals and people pass charateristics that are necessary to survival to their offspring: 3 principles of natural selection. Adaptations- charactristics that are well suited for a particular environment. Social psychologists sudy how human behaviors are similar to anials, hormones and how social situations affect individual behavior. Social cognitive- focuses on mental processes involved in paying attention to, interpreating, and rememeering social experiences. Cognitive processes are often biased toward making us feel good about ourselves.
