Istoria had to have balance between variety (enough to hold interest of audience) & unity (enough to hold coherence to composition & clarity to narrative) Giotto becomes the basis for early italian renaissance artists. Early italian renaissance, masaccio, brancacci chapel frescoes, c. 1425-1428: masolino worked w/ masaccio on composition, masolino. Faces are mask like & inexpressive: massacio. Very strong lighting that fully models body in 3d illusionism. Move forward in elegant set of controposto. Eve is screaming in grief & adam is burying his face in his hands in shame. Have very active facial expressions, gestures & postures.
