Two fold idea: voyeuristic ( peeping tom"), pleasure derived from looking, narcissism, pleasure derived from recognition & identification. Masculinity looks, whilst femininity is looked at. The male and the masculine cannot bear the burden of sexual objectification. Downplays the importance of female pleasure in looking and female spectatorship. Doesn"t include complex forms of identification (ex. homoeroticism)
