Objective reporters= neutral and detached from the stories. Citizens of democratic societies must be informed well-informed. Leaders and political elites hear what people are saying via the press. Giving people a say/voice in public affairs. Who might otherwise distort or hide the truth. The media acts as a champion on behalf of the people, by advocating political positions, and expressing partisan viewpoints in public debates. This typically takes the form of editorial comment or opinion, and stands apart from routine , objective reporting and newsgathering functions of the press. News media is our sole source of inquiry into politics and society. Media proprietors and journalists can put a particular spin /slant/angle on a story. To bring about desired change that benefits them. Never challenge or speak out against the status quo. Chomsky argues that america"s commercial media sector justifies and supports the inequitable economic and political power structures that underpin american society.
