Document Summary

Began his experiments by developing pure breeding strain. Pure breeding purple crossed with pure breeding white (parental) All plants in the f1 generation had purple flowers. Cross the f1 plants, which are purple, and cross them amongst themselves. F2 (second generation) give us 25% white and 75% purple. Each parent has 2 hereditary factors for each trait. Each parental contributes one factor to the next generation. When an individual plant has 2 different hereditary factors or genes, one of them is expressed in the outward appearance and that is the dominant trait and the other although present it is hidden (recessive) Pp-purple plant & pp-white plant first law of segregations states that the genes segregate in the sperm and the egg. Eggs formed by the parental plant would have one p not two. In the event that the purple plant is a female, the eggs would have the p gene and the sperm would have p gene in the sperm.
