Document Summary

Worked around the time that aristotle"s works were translated into latin. Worked to integrate aristotle"s ideas with christianity. Not clear in aristotle if the soul survives. Aquinas is the bridge between christian views and aristotelian views. Is the soul corporeal: soul is the origin/source of life of all living things. Form: what makes it what it is nature: organizing power, shaping principle: origin or source. Human nature is the power to organize us into a human thing. 2) not every source of vital action is a soul. 3) nothing corporeal can be the first principle of life. If the body is the source of its own life, then every body would be alive. Very little material things distinguish life from death. 4) so, the soul is not corporeal. Subsistent: to have an operation of its own, existing on its own or as an integral part of something else.
