Response to domesic violence (by jonathan lippman of the albany law review) Introducion presents a case example involving the murder of galina komar, who was shot and killed by her abusive boyfriend. The boyfriend had been brought up on misdemeanor charges in the past for physically harming her, but the jusice system of new york coninued to allow him to slip through the cracks and be released into society. Ater he was released from jail for the last ime, he went to komar"s place of work and shot her. In the past (around the 1980s), domesic violence was seen as a private issue, with vicims encouraged to atend counseling with their abusers rather than taking legal acion. They were given litle incenive to press charges, and many abusers were never even arrested or charged.
