Private: hidden from public- thoughts, feelings, desires, dreams, fantasies, and attitudes. Public- overt emotions, appearance, what can be viewed by others. Self-conscious: one"s tendency to be attentive to his sense of self. Private: constant state of internal self-analysis and reflection get in touch with thoughts and feelings . Public: knowledge seeking by external self-analysis regarding public appearance it"s more important to look good than feel good : private self-consciousness. High private sc: less concerned with impression they make on others , because behave in ways that reflect true internal feelings and beliefs. High private sc: greater sense of emotional awareness than low psc. More reactions, more aggression, more laughter, more bodily symptoms. More negative moods, ruminates over mistakes, more etoh in response to failure and negative life events.
