Nature/nurture controversy: how much of personality is dependent on nature and how much dependent on nurture. Heredity: estimation of genetic contribution to specific personality dimensions. Genetic determinism: inherited factors influence the range of possibilities for an individual"s personality, not predetermine it. Consideration of biological factors operating with, not replacing, environment factors to determine the expression of personality. Reciprocal operation of biological and social factors in determining personality. Constitutional psychology: early viewpoint emphasizing the bodily processes and characteristics to explain behavior. Humors: certain bodily fluids associated with specific personality characteristics. Melancholic personality sadness and depression (black bile) Choleric personality anger and irritable (yellow bile) Physiognomy: specific facial features (slender face) associated with certain personality characteristics. Behavioral genetics: assessment of the extent to which variation in behavior among people. Examines family hx, to identify disease or characteristics. Evidence of genetic contribution the more genetic material you share with someone, the closer you will be to them in terms of disorder and characteristics.
