PSYC 3930 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Confirmation Bias, Cherry Picking, Representativeness Heuristic
Document Summary
Set of rules to tell what is and is not diagnosable. Validity: does something measure what it is supposed to measure. Does the criteria for a disorder actually represent the disorder it says it is supposed to measure. Utility: how applicable or useful a system is (is the dsm useable for clinicians) Dimensional based off of a scale or continuum (height or weight vary from person to person) Normalize diagnosis with showing them the diagnostic criteria. Milestones points in your life that have large impacts. Transitions points of change in their life or experiences of change. Disruptions quick immediate changes or exposure anything that would throw off their normal stride. Sx expression how different people present sx in different ways. No dx is based on a single sx its always based on a cluster of sx"s. Dsm is complicated bc they might meet criteria, but they may have distress and may not think they need any help.
