THEO 1000 Lecture 6: September 24, 2012
Document Summary
Epistemological problem: we have a problem with our knowledge. The epistemological problem comes from our ability to name something coming from what we know about it, and we don"t know enough about god. Our ability to know god is limited because we are creatures and he created us, so there"s a huge gap and we can only know god through the world. To name something is to know it and have some kind of control over it. Remember that words fall short of describing god. Good of wise = beware of the fact that however we describe him; he is at a much higher level than that. Beware of thinking that god is the cause in anything like a chain of causes. When we say god is something, it is based on our knowledge of that thing. The fact that we have a concept of good comes from the goodness of god.
