October 18, 2012: a document of vatican ii. Vatican ii: a gathering of all the catholic bishops in the world from 1962-1965. The technical word for this is an ecumenical council. The purpose of the council was to bring the church up to date and into the modern world! Vatican i declared the modern world to be blasphemous, so vatican ii wanted to reverse all of that. This changed not just the liturgy (no more latin! Church taught about its own structure, other religions, the laity, economics, and the bible. It also changed the hierarchy of the church into more of a circular model instead of a ladder of hierarchy, which was supposed to promote more conversation and dialogue. Changed the teaching from saying that all non- roman catholics were going to hell to banning roman catholics from trying to convert jewish people.
