Muhammad is part of the line of prophets. Muhammad is a prophet just like those before him. If muhammad is not sure of his mission, then he must go to prophets of other religions to solidify his role. When forming a new religion, he needed to reference back to someone known by the people. People of moses are held up as exemplars of how to act and worship in community also demonstrates punishment for breaking religious rules.
