BIOL 120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Tunica Vaginalis, Ejaculatory Duct, Vas Deferens
Document Summary
Accessory sex glands = produce materials that support gametes. Supporting structures = have various roles in reproduction. Testes, ductus epididymis, vas deferens, ejaculatory duct, urethra, seminal vesicles, prostate, bulbourethral glands, penis. Scrotum = sac that hangs from root of penis. Raphe = external median ridge separating scrotum into lateral portions. Dartos muscle => smooth muscle tissue in scrotal septum. Cremaster muscle => small bundles of skeletal muscles that descend through the spermatic cord to surround each testis. Testes = paired oval glands (gonads) in the scrotum. Hydrocele = serous fluid in the cavity of tunica vaginalis caused by injury or inflammation tunica albuginea. White fibrous capsule of dense irregular ct. Forms septa that divides each testis into internal compartments (lobules) Where sperm cells are made => spermatogenic cells. Nourish sperm cells + secrete inhibin interstitial cells (leydig cells) Androgen = hormone that promotes the development of masculine characteristics. Descend into scrotum through inguinal canals during 7th month of fetal development.
