BIOL 121 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Hair Cell, Cornea, Retina
Document Summary
Duration of stimulus two types of receptor response for a constant touch. Rapidly adapting receptors- respond then stop responding because we don"t need it anymore(putting on glasses but then they disappear on your head) Slowly adapting receptors- sometimes we need that info all the time. Continuous, not an either or sort of thing. Lateral inhibition- if i stimulate the field at b there could be a stimulation of a and c as well. Comparison of paireil receptors (paired positions = behavior)- look at your fingers and close one eye, the brain compares two pictures which look slightly different. How your brain tells where a sound comes from (ability to localize sound) depends on frequency. We cannot localize smells, nostrils are too close together. Chemosensory- taste, smell (olfaction), visceral- being able to detect differences of chemical substances. Most taste senses are located on the tongue called the papillae. Taste buds have specialized neuron endings on them.
