Document Summary

Catecholamines use the term adrenergic to describe them. We use alpha and beta (and then subclasses for the both of them) both use g proteins, both can be excitatory or inhibitory. For a given cell it can be both excitatory and inhibitory. Serotonin we spit it out and reuptake it. Variety of ways to combat clinical depression. Two neurotransmitters that affect mood, epinephrine (or norepinephrine) and serotonin. Can prescribe a monoamine oxidase inhibitor so it slows down the breakdown of epinephrine. We could also give a ssri (serotonin selective reuptake inhibitor) to reduce the amount of serotonin that is reuptake in another part of the presynaptic cell) cannot give both at the same time. We assume that the cause of the depression was that we were deficit in those. There are other ways to influence this. Epinephrine is used in fight or flight. We could exercise more to help increase mood.
