Canadian forest products are exported to 180 countries around the world. Us is our largest trading partner when it comes to wood, and asia is increasing. All trees in one area are cut at the same time (leaving only stumps behind) Negative impacts: landslides, water pollution, loss of plants and animals, soil erosion. High grading cut the best, leave the rest . The most accessible, high quality are cut first. The least accessible, often lower quality forests are left to be harvested at a later time. The value of the remaining forest declines: for the same amount of land, the value (volume) of timber removed is less. Now have to move to inaccessible more remote places potentially costing more.
