England had become a superpower, owned lots of land including the thirteen colonies, had the best navy and army at the time. People in colonies were unhappy with the british government so they designed their own subterranean government. Broke up with britain with the declaration of independance bc: Parliament had 2 chambers, house of lords and house of commons, house of commons is elected to represent the people.
