Known as civil rights amendment because it was reacted for people and giving black people voting rights. 19 gives women the right to vote. Slaves are property they are not human. They cannot declare for themselves their freedom. Is said it was ok to congregate based on race as long as it was equal. Said that school segregation is inherently unequal. Violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment. Rosa parks refused to move her seat, was arrested and cited for disturbing the peace. They decided this was a good time to test the civil rights power. Designed a bus boycott for 13 months. Succeeded so at the end of the boycott the supreme court affirmed a lower court ruling that bus segregation is illegal. Makes illegal racial discrimination in areas of public accommodations and in employment on the bases of race, color, national origin, religion, and gender. Since then we have added sexual orientation/identity.
