PSYCH 104 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Hindsight Bias, Psych
Document Summary
Testing speci c conditions to improve theories and predictions to increase understanding. To better understand a real-world phenomenon, to x a real-world problem. Hindsight bias ( i knew it all along ) Attitude, and subjective social norms are good predictors of behaviour. Human tendency to, once learning the results of a study, say oh yeah it was obvious that would happen. We want our studies to resemble the real world as much as possible, so that we can be sure we"re getting at organic behaviour, but we don"t want to cause our participants lasting distress or harm, etc. No physical or psychological distress should be imposed on participants unless it is absolutely integral to the research question (minimize risks, maximize bene ts) Participants should be given some information about the study before they agree to participate (consent can be implicit, written, and/or verbal) Some observational studies, eld studies, and anonymous survey studies do not include informed consent.
