Used to be classified as an anxiety disorder, but not anymore in the dsm-5. Obsessions intrusive and nonsensical thoughts, images, or urges that one tries to resist or eliminate. Somatic repeated thoughts about a body part or function. Compulsions repetitive thoughts or actions to suppress thoughts and provide relief. Miscellaneous (ex. adding numbers on license plates) Ex. making bed perfectly prevents mother from getting in. Often just a feeling, not really any logic behind it a car accident. Sex differences slightly more females than males, but not over represented. Age of onset early adolescence or young adulthood; males develop. Course hardest disorders to treat; the longer you struggle with it, the harder it is to change. Thinks a bad thought is the same as a bad deed. Ex. don"t think of a pink elephant you will most likely think of a pink elephant more often than if you were told not to.
