Marxism- a body of thought deriving its main elements from karl marx"s ideas. Its adherents see it as a combination of sociological analysis & political reform. They lay more emphasis on conflict, class divisions, power, & ideology. power- the capability of individuals or groups to make their own concerns or interests count, even when others resist. Postmodern theory postmodernism- the belief that society is no longer governed by history or progress ( grand narratives ). Believes that the electronic media have destroyed our relation to our past & created a chaotic, empty world. He thinks that technology has reversed the marxist theorem. Theories are more narrowly focused & represent attempts to explain particular social conditions or events. Middle-range theories are specific enough to be tested directly by empirical research, yet are sufficiently general to cover a range of different phenomena. Microsociology- the study of human behavior in contexts of face-to-face interaction.
