Document Summary

In the san juan basin which has very little topography or much of anything else, chaco. Canyon by the chaco wash which has some topography and water, more than anywhere else in the basin, still very remote. The canyon is very arit only getting 8 inches of precipitation a year with an ephemeral stream/wash. San juan basin is desert grassland and scrub with a few pinon pines and junipers, washes have cottonwood trees. The mountains surrounding the basin have lots of coniferous trees and aspens. Grew corn, beans, and squash but also hunted for meat. Small mammals from chaco canyon, the large animals are not which makes sense given the environment. Found deer from the highlands within 50 miles (could be hunted themselves, could be trade for prestige goods) Also antelope from the grasslands in the san juan basin, which are hard to hunt for a bow due to their speed.
