Earthworks are dispersed along with the settlement model, clustered as they"re dispersed rather than being everywhere (both are sort of relative) No evidence of population aggregation near the earthworks, sometimes some evidence of trash but not enough for domestic habitation or any structures, ovens, etc. Ancient, the structure, is a hopewell earthwork, but is named for the ft. Ancient culture that came later since they lived inside in the southern part. Village is paired with one lower on the landscape on the flood plain, a reflection of matrilineal pattern in iroquois, so perhaps something similar. All places of high devotional expression (renfrew), evidence of people doing things there but not living there, obviously people had to create them, therefore this is a logical conclusion.
