GEOG 111 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Tropical Rainforest, List Of Weather Records, Aquifer
Document Summary
Despite accessibility of many aquifers they are untouched due to lack of technology to access them in many parts of the world. The aquifer can"t recharge since once the pores are emptied of water they are just filled with air since air is a compressible gas and land will simply push down on it. Every aquifer in the world is on a decline. Surface water is more easily contaminated than groundwater. Point sources of pollution are specific areas like waste water treatment plants or factories which contribute pollution at a fixed point. Non-point sources of pollution are regions that contribute to pollution like agriculture regions that have pesticide etc. runoff and urban areas that can have stuff end up in water, a non-fixed point. Dams, especially large ones that produce large reservoirs, actually do more harm than good as they cause collapse of aquatic ecosystems, cause earthquakes, drive species to extinction, and change completely the way a river works.
