Moral arguments: somatic, high risk of failure but life changing outcome if successful. If steps are taken to minimize harm of patients, it is allowed: review boards and agencies monitor trials to ensure reduced risks, germ line, do not know long term effect of therapies on offspring, not allowed. Application of theories: utilitarian, benefits outweigh costs, natural law, somatic cell is acceptable, esc production is immoral, kantian. If embryo is person, destroying it is not permissible. If embryo is going to suffer when born, it is permissible to destroy it.
