Slavery wouldn"t be allowed to exist in the us. Freedmen"s bureau: the group/federal organization that was sent into the south, usually with military authority, to try and work out the transition from the slave south to the free labor south . Man in the middle is shown to be perfectly sufficient against the others, even though there is currently a race. Freedmen"s bureau was very short-staffed (only one of him in the picture) Whites: believed blacks should have few rights if any; should be considered in a space between slavery and free. The government will pass black codes which tried to define the space between slave and free/citizenship rights established by the confederate states after the civil war. Can"t assemble in groups of 5 or 10. Issue of citizenship for the former slaves (chattel slavery, where people were treated as chattel, or personal property) they had no rights because they didn"t exist as humans.
