Document Summary
Persian empire: the persian empire originated from what is now iran. He expanded the empire to the west by conquering egypt, and also controlling the eastern and southern shores of the mediterranean, all of the anatolian peninsula, the middle east, and most of southwest asia. This caused the persian empire to be largest empire until that time: under darius" rule, the persian empire reached its greatest prosperity. He created twenty districts which are called satraps, with four capitals. The districts were able to self-rule and retain their original laws and customs. This began the series of greek and persian wars in which the persians succeeded in destroying athens but also had humiliating defeats. Alexander the great: alexander the great was a different leader than others because he was able to conquer more territory, in a shorter period of time, than any military leader before of after him.
