The elders and superiors are above you. You have to respect them and honor them. They are wiser and older than you, it"s a duty to be respecting them even if they aren"t alive anymore. Believed in a paternalistic government, which is when citizens should obey governments as they would to their parents; sovereign is honorable; and citizens are respectful, loyal, and obedient. Ren - courteous, respectful, diligent, and loyal; it"s a characteristic needed in government officials. Li - a sense of propriety, should treat all other human beings with courtesy, while showing special respect and deference to elders or superiors.
