Document Summary

All of the technologies that we were talking about before were improving. Digital computers have their origins going back to the 1830s. It took until 1940s for digital computers to take off. Navigation, which is based on working with algorithms. The machines replaced humans who would sit in groups and essentially work out through a lot of significant digits/ algorithm. This would be filled with errors because humans were working with algorithm, (6-7 digits) and these errors would compound some of the problems with regard to navigation. There was a real need for computation for navigation purposes and other purposes. What problems were driving the first electronic digital computers? (this happened for the most part with the two countries during wwii) The u. s. built a lot of machines that were concerned with breaking codes. Germans and others built machines that not only broke codes, but there were electromechanical machines that would encode into coding text.
