INTA 4XXX Lecture Notes - United Nations Charter
Document Summary
The purpose of the first committee is to deal with the reduction of weapons worldwide, to address international security issues, threats to peace, and to seek out solutions for these. The efforts of this committee extend only as far as the united nations charter allows. The committee considers the general principles of cooperation among states in seeking and keeping international peace and security; it promotes cooperative efforts aimed at strengthening stability in the international security regime through more regulations on armaments. Membership in the first committee is standard: each member may be represented by one person on each main committee and on any other committee that may be established upon which all members have the right to be represented. It may also assign to these committees advisers, technical advisers, experts or persons of similar status. 1. Each member state receives one vote and each vote counts equally. United nations are welcome to take part in the committee.
