Document Summary

Angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection both angles are measured from a normal (perpendicular) to the surface at the point of incidence: 2nd law of reflection. Incident ray, reflected ray, and the normal all lie in the same plane. Occurs when beam of light falls on a very smooth surface, ex. mirrors, surface of still lake. All the light rays reflect parallel to each other: diffuse reflection. Occurs when beam of light falls on a rough surface. The light rays reflect in many different directions. Images: object = source of diverging light rays if you look in mirror you are the object image = reproduction of the object formed by mirror as light rays intersect or appear to intersect. Real images can be projected onto a screen rays of light actually converge and pass through the image.
