BCHM 3100K Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Hyperbole, Escalator
Document Summary
Nixon told the press that he is not a crook, and yet he is the one who was hiring crooks and was supported by crooks. The banners with the writing on it which nixon is holding onto depict the frame of mind which he has. It looks as if the spools are being wound up (therefore giving less to hold onto as time progresses). This cartoon uses a parody to imitate president nixon and how he is holding onto his claims by the tiniest little bit. It"s only a matter of time before his claims are stretched too thinly and nixon falls from the effort of trying too hard to stick and hold onto his claims. This cartoon is effective because it shows that nixon was only holding onto his claims until he isn"t able to anymore because he was exposed.
