Imperialism is the worst form of hegemony (think of when we took the indians out of their homes and forced them to our cultural standards: one group putting their foot down on another group! Increased productivity: theory of competitive advantage, technology transfer, gig economy + work from anywhere, peacekeeping elements align with democratic principles. Emergence of international/global institutions to help manage, regulate and police business: the world trade organization (wto): helps encourage trade between countries, making sure countries are following rules and treaties. To engage in international trade, you must be a member of the wto. Essentially the practical details stuff of banking: interest rates, how long the loan will be, and set the different prices for different currencies. They work hand in hand with the world bank: world bank: writes up loans, promotes economic growth, front-end fiscal work, rulemaking organization, the imf and world bank work together.
