Our ancestors were eager to understand the world but had not quite stumbled upon the method . Not all information is created equal- some have been tested, researched and shown to be valid . Must understand how it is produced to distinguish good from bad information. Many useful ways to know things, so must distinguish research process. Distinguish good from pseudo (fake) or bad research. Everyday ways of knowing (1) personal experience: experiencing something yourself. ~ some research indicates that we jump to conclusions on the basis of limited knowledge (2) intuition: true or false because it makes sense . Research is disciplined inquiry that involves studying something in a planned manner and reporting it so that other inquirers can potentially replicate the process. The research process (3 characteristics) (1) based on curiosity and questions. ~ the strategies researchers use to solve puzzling mysteries about the world.
