HIST 122 Lecture 18: Lecture 18
Document Summary
War time strategies: the germans had a plan to sweep through sweden and holland to prevent the english from attacking them from the other side, and then they would have a better vantage point to attack. It was horrible, devastating: the conditions in the trenches alone killed people. It was constantly wet, there were diseases and close quarters: there were 475 miles of trenches between germany and britain, there were tremendous causalities for such a small amount of land. New technology: there were so many things invented, experimented with, and tested, airplanes, they were just for reconnaissance at the beginning of the war, there were not seen in a positive light. It also depended on how much was used: people could have symptoms ranging from loss of sight, brain damage, or death, modern machine gun, this was the invention with the greatest impact. It was invented by the germans: at least, they modernized the invention.
